Current Pest Problems in Southern California
Asian Citrus Pysllid
The Asian Citrus Psyllid feeds on the stem and leaves of citrus. It is especially dangerous because it vectors a disease (Citrus greening disease) that is fatal to citrus trees. Once a tree is infected with the disease, the tree will die. Citrus greening disease has been found in the Los Angelese area and has the potential to greatly affect the citrus industry, along with several thousand trees in the urban environment. The best way to control the spread of the disease, is to stop the spread of the Asian Citrus Psyllid.
California Red Scale
The California red scale is a pest of citrus that leads to leaf yellowing and drop, dieback of twigs and could in severe cases lead to tree death. Biologically-based Integrated Pest Management (IPM) has proven to be the most effective program for managing red scale problems in citrus. FAR uses an effective balanced approach to controlling your red scale problem. This is accomplished through the strategic use of the beneficial insect Aphytis melinus.
